About this course

Description

Columbia Journalism School’s Lede Program is a 10-week intensive on coding and data analysis. Journlaists and stroytellers of all kinds are equipped with the computer skills needed to turn data into stories.

During the program, students will complete coursework from several different modules, which have previously included:

  • Foundations of Computing 
  • Storytelling 
  • Mapping 
  • Algorithms


Note: This seminar is aimed exlusively at the employees of 20 Minuten and Tamedia. External registrations will not be considered.

Learning goals

The program focuses on:

  • Learn how to clean, pars, and process data sets within modern journalist projects
  • Familiarize yourself with the data-driven programmatic landscape
  • Refining creative workflow on personal work, from obtaining and cleaning data to the final presentation
  • Learn to leverage map-making and use visualization and geographic analysis 
  • Understanding large data sets – generate leads, create insights, and learn how to best focus efforts with large data sets

Target group

Lede is a 10-week Certification of Professional Achievement for journalists who want an applied introduction to data and computation. Journalists take courses hosted at the Journalism School, gaining a strong foundation in coding, data, algorithms and visualization.

Participation in the programme

Since seats are limited, a nomination procedure will then decide on your participation.

Costs

  • The costs for this seminar are covered by TX Group.
  • Travel and accommodation costs are reimbursed up to a certain amount.
  • This program includes a material adverse clause (reglementskonforme Rückzahlungsklausel) as stated in the guidelines “Aus- und Weiterbildung“.
